McAfee Total Protection 2012

McAfee Total Protection Editor's Review

The amount of software to help you protect your computer from hackers and other malicious online is ever expanding. With the plethora of software available to you, it is important to choose the right software for you, especially as so much of it has high costs or subscription rates. McAfee Total Protection is one of the longest-standing Internet security companies and so they should know their stuff. But do they hold do they hold out against other security software?

The past few years haven’t been good for McAfee. After an erroneous virus definition deleted an important Windows file for millions of users in 2010, and a few years of bad virus test reports, McAfee has a lot of ground to recover. To a certain extent, it has worked and the new version of McAfee Total Protection measures up well against a number of other Internet security tools. The installation process and configuration is simple enough for any beginner, which isn’t always the case for security software.

Pros: Easy to set up and install, on par with a lot of other security software.

Cons: Lacking customer support, tainted company history.

Conclusion: If McAfee Total Protection had only today been released, then it would be fair to congratulate the company on creating a sound security tool. Yet McAfee are tainted by a few rocky years, however, and while the current level of testing has been successful, for some people, this might not be enough.
